Cindi Lou-Villa

Cindi Lou-Villa's field hockey career began as a player at Kearny High School in San Diego, California, where she participated in the first CIF playoffs in San Diego. She shared the Most Valuable Player of the year with her best friend. She then went on to play field hockey at San Diego State University where she received one of five scholarships awarded. Her collegiate career consisted of playing on two Western Athletic Conference Championship teams that received berths to the regional playoffs. After college she was a member of the San Diego Field Hockey Association and a player with the Pacific Southwest Regional team. That team won two national championships--one with the 1979 Pacific Southwest Women's team and one with the 1984 San Diego Field Hockey Co-ed team. She was also a member of the 2007 Green Card team that won the Gold Medal in the Competitive Women's Division at the California Cup tournament.
During her collegiate career, she began her career as an official. Her desire was to give back to a sport that had given so much to her. She began officiating as a freshman in college. As an umpire, she has umpired ten CIF Final Championship games and was one of the highly requested officials for finals and playoffs. As the Umpiring Chairperson and President she played a major role in acquiring the accreditation for the San Diego Field Hockey Officials' Association. Cindi was also the instructional chairperson for seven years, and the association grew with her guidance. In 1999, Ellie Minor, a member of the National Federation Field Hockey Rules Committee nominated Cindi for the prestigious National Federation Officials' Award which she received for the state of California. In 2007, Cindi was inducted to the San Diego County Sports Officials Hall of Fame for her hard work and contributions to umpiring and the game.
Cindi has also been a camp clinician at over 20 high schools in San Diego County and has started three high school programs in the Poway Unified School District. Her greatest coaching achievement was coaching one of two San Diego teams at the California State games and winning the silver medal in 2001 and the gold medal in 2002. At the same time, she was also the Director of the California State Games--San Diego Division.
Cindi has been an umpire, player and coach in the sport of field hockey for over 30 years. To this day, she continues her involvement with field hockey and continues to give back to those who share her same passion for the game.
